Bavaria is home to a unique symbiosis of outstanding companies operating in the aerospace sector and cutting-edge research institutions. I am therefore delighted that participants from all over the globe are coming to Augsburg for Airtec 2024 to experience first-hand the future of aerospace and air mobility and to share views and ideas on new developments. It is here that progress in zero emission aviation and opportunities offered by AI for future air mobility are presented, but innovative defence technologies and the increasing significance of the space economy will also be playing a central role – and all of this at the highest level with the relevant experts!
Augsburg is the ideal venue for such an event. This was already demonstrated last year when Airtec drew more than 4,000 trade visitors and guests to Augsburg – the city of the Fuggers – from 31 nations and from a wide range of fields in the aerospace industry. It was a huge success and the same is sure to happen again this year, because Airtec offers the best opportunities for the transfer of knowledge and ideas – paving the way for progress and innovation!

welcome to Augsburg, one of Germany’s oldest cities. Augsburg was founded in 15 B.C. as a Roman military encampment between the Lech and Wertach riv-ers. From the beginning, water played a significant role in the city’s develop-ment. In July 2019, Augsburg was awarded the title UNESCO World Heritage Site for its “Water Management System.” The Lech canals that weave through the historic district were used by craftsmen to power water wheels.

AIRTEC 2022 takes place in a very challenging time for the aerospace industry. Air traffic is expected to grow even further. At the same time inflation, rising energy prices, skills shortages and supply chain issues are major burdens for the aerospace industry. This makes it all the more important to further improve the technological excellence of our own industry and to push international cooperation with reliable partners. AIRTEC offers an excellent platform for this.
I am very pleased that zero-emission aviation is one of the priorities of AIRTEC 2022. It is one of the German governments key objectives to make Germany an international leader in climate-neutral flying. This of course requires perseverance and will only succeed as a joint effort by politics, business and science. That’s why fairs and conferences like AIRTEC are so important.
I am convinced that Germany is well positioned in the aerospace sector including the thriving New Space sector and that our companies are efficient, competitive and highly flexible when it comes to quickly developing and implementing new innovations.

Bavaria has been an outstanding location for the aerospace industry for many years. Here, the future is being shaped with passion and competence! Airtec 2022, as an international trade fair for suppliers to the industry, puts another powerful exclamation mark on this.
The trade fair and the associated conference will focus on the major challenges of a future aerospace industry. A central question is how emission-free and climate-neutral flying is possible. What will the air mobility of the future actually look like? What consequences will this have for the industry’s value and supply chains? What prospects arise from the growing international interest in space travel? These are topics that are of interest far beyond the aerospace industry.
